Burgess Jewellers was established in 1927 by William Arthur Burgess.
William was trained as a watchmaker and Jeweller in Hatton Gardens London which at that time was one of the major manufacturing jewellery centers in the world.
On arriving in Australia he rented a small shop in Page Street for one pound a week.
Page street was situated between the Central Market and Victoria Square.
Today the Adelaide Hilton Hotel stands on the Page Street site.
William soon established a reputation as a craftsman by making wedding rings with his customers old gold for 2/6d
(25 cents) while they shopped in the Central Market.
With his unique abilities as a watchmaker and Jeweller he laid the foundation from which Burgess Jewellers grew.
Today the business is still owned and managed by the Burgess family. We pride ourselves on the range of jewellery that we carry and the way it is presented in our store.
